I’ve always liked the look of wedding cakes. Especially the large ones with ornate, decorative frosting. Maybe that’s why I was so excited when I walked into St. Ermin’s Hotel. The image of the gleaming white, icing-like decor made my taste buds and emotions swirl in a romantic fantasy. I felt like I was standing in a layered cake. Even those who are not fond of this type of cake would surely admit the stunning nature of a spiral staircase, curved shapes, and intricate designs. There’s no denying that the drama was no doubt deliberately created by theater designer JP Briggs. And drama is part of the history of this glorious hotel. If those ornate Rococo ceilings and Art Nouveau stucco could talk, it would be a fascinating conversation. The British secret services were located in St. Ermin’s during the Second World War. So did Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive. On the ground floor there is a small military museum with on-site war exhibitions. Look at it. In the hotel’s Caxton Bar, double agent Guy Burgess (of Cambridge Five) handed the Russians top secret papers. My source told me (actually it was the nice lady at the front desk) that there is a secret tunnel to the Houses of Parliament from a door directly under the grand staircase. It was locked – I checked. ![]() The hotel has a lush flora driveway that leads to its Victorian facade where you can see the intricacies as you approach. The building received a facelift in 2010 under the direction of designer Dayna Lee, who is said to have been inspired by botanist Christopher Dresser. If you look closely, you can spot floral patterns in the area. ![]() ![]() The hotel also serves a different type of guest at its Bee & Bee Hotel. They keep their own beehives in a lush setting where nature does its thing. So St. Ermin’s can serve its own honey at tea time. For whom?St. Ermin’s is perfect for hardworking bees looking for a break, as well as those who just want to enjoy a historic place in St. James. Family rooms mean that the children can come too. Great service is guaranteed here. Business travelers will appreciate the convenient location for the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center. accommodation The 311 rooms are far more modern than the entrance suggests. Modern amenities include minibars, hairdryers, ironing boards, flat-screen TVs, and even bathrobes and slippers. Full size toiletries are from the White Company. ![]() ![]() The king-size beds are very comfortable, the rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are just delightful. My bedroom, Suite 601, has a living room that leads to the bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with two sinks, a wet room with a freestanding bathtub and a separate toilet. And two chocolate bees on the side table. Eat DrinkThe Caxton Bar and Grill provides a pleasant place for wine and European food. The menu features well-executed popular dishes like seared salmon and rib eye steak with perfect triple cooked fries, as well as some delicious wines and cocktails. Maris, our waiter for the evening, offered his wine accompaniment, which we enjoyed very much. Breakfast is also served here. Of course there is the full English breakfast, a selection of cooked egg dishes and muesli. ![]() ![]() ![]() Afternoon tea on the flower terrace or indoors in bad weather. Across the country there are a few travel destinations that are so rounded in appeal that almost everyone has them on their travel bucket list. After a brief and very informal interview with friends and family, I have an inkling that Savannah is one of those unicorn towns; I know it was for me One of the problems with planning a visit, however, is knowing where to start – there is just so much to see and do. In addition, today I would like to share a few experiences that I liked the most. These are not meant to represent the top tourist activities, although they may be, just my thoughts on how many people want to spend their time in this lazy southern city. ![]() First Squares Culinary Tour My favorite way to experience a new city for the first time is on a culinary tour, regardless of whether I’m in Bologna, Helsinki or Savannah. Food tours aren’t just fun, they’re informative too. Learning about a local cuisine is a crash course in the history and culture of a destination, as food is an integral part of both. Savannah Taste Experience is the only tour company in town exclusively focused on food and culinary heritage, offering a variety of different tour options. However, since it was my first time, I went with their classic tour of the city, the First Squares Food Tour. As the precautions from the COVID era were being taken, I joined the small group as we began our easy walk through some of the most beautiful and famous squares and tree-lined streets in the city. Of course, we stopped several times along the way to try some great local dishes while learning about the city’s impressive history. I never like to reveal all the secrets of a food tour, but I have to say that one of my favorite stops was at The Little Crown, where I unexpectedly tried a great British meat pie. While it may seem strange to try on a Savannah food tour, it does hint at the ever-changing landscape of the food scene, which fortunately is constantly changing and evolving. Plant Riverside District The Plant Riverside District is a part of the city that has long been forgotten and forgotten, but has recently been revitalized and reborn in what I consider to be quite spectacular. From shopping and memorable dining experiences to jaw dropping river views, there’s a lot to love about Plant Riverside, but at the heart of the experience is the new JW Marriott. Savannah’s newest and most luxurious hotel, the architectural provenance on display here is unique in the city. Whether it’s the glittering lobby or one of the property’s three unique buildings, the JW Marriott has plenty to love and many more reasons to make it your base when exploring the city. ![]() Ghost tour There was one experience that everyone told me during my time in Savannah, a ghost tour. Since Savannah is one of the oldest cities in the United States, it is logically also one of the most haunted. Ghost tours are certainly not only unique to Savannah, you can find them in many urban centers around the world. What sets Savannah apart, however, is that you actually believe that the places visited on the tours are actually haunted. There is just too much history in this beautiful city for it not to be haunted. There are many options for ghost tours in Savannah, but a few that you should try are Ghost Talk Ghost Walk and Ghost City Tours. ![]() Eat more As one of the great foodie towns in the country, I knew that finding some delicious bites wouldn’t be the problem on my last visit to Savannah, but how to narrow it down to a really short visit. Centuries of multiculturalism have come together to create a truly unique cuisine that is also instantly familiar and even feels homely. While it’s impossible to share all of the amazing bites in town, there are a few I have to mention. Located in the historic Savannah neighborhood, B. Matthew’s Eatery is a one-of-a-kind bistro and one of the places locals try to keep to themselves, but lucky visitors like me are always eager to discover. What started out as a casual deli and bakery has since grown into a full-service restaurant that enhances some incredible classic American dishes through the use of quality ingredients and an obvious love for craft. The menus for all meals look great, but brunch was the perfect addition for me and my own love of great breakfasts. Almost impossible to narrow down my choices, I opted for the traditional sourdough French toast. My only regret, of course, was that I couldn’t try everything on the menu, but now I have many more reasons to come back. A visit to one of the most famous ice cream parlors in the country wasn’t on my original to-do list, but when I found out about Leopold’s, I couldn’t resist stopping. Founded in 1919 by three brothers from Greece, its unique recipes and downtown location instantly wowed Savannah residents looking for a sweet treat. Since then, generations of savanna people have grown up on Leopold’s, and the ice even has some famous connections. The lyricist Johnny Mercer grew up as a patron of Leopold and was so inspired by their famous Tutti Fruiti ice cream that he wrote the now famous song about the ball. Today their super premium ice cream is still handcrafted to these original recipes in historic downtown Savannah, but if you want to enjoy a few scoops like me, you’ll have to wait; Lines are common for what really is some of the best ice cream you will ever try. ![]() Meandering without a purpose If ever a city was made for people-watching and strolling aimlessly, it was Savannah. One of the city’s most notable features is a big reason it’s so easy to get lost on purpose – the squares. Savannah was originally laid out in 1733 around four open plazas, each surrounded by residential and town houses. The original purpose of the squares was diverse. They offered areas for military training, but were also aesthetically pleasing and served as a firebreak; a response to cramped conditions in cities like London. More places were added later and in 1851 there were 24 places in the city. Today there are 22 places, the others have been lost due to changes in the city and are fortunately revered as an important part of life in Savannah. There are several guidebooks to the places, each with more information about them, their neighborhoods, and their names. However, my advice is to just wander through as many as you can but also as slowly as you can to really soak up the spirit of Savannah. Bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the experience as this is one of the best ways to understand this amazing city in my opinion.

Via https://globalconnekt.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-flying-an-instrument/ Looking back at 2020 so far, many of you would not be surprised if you were suddenly told that Christmas has been canceled this year. And at the risk of it sounding like a complete Grinch, the usual celebrations this year have to be reserved for something smaller and quieter, as many can’t travel, Christmas trips are canceled, and the lead up to the big day is much tamer than we are familiar with. For many of you, this also means renouncing the time-honored tradition of browsing the Christmas markets, eating roasted chestnuts and drinking mulled wine. But there is good news! Thanks to technology, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday season (and we’re not just talking about watching Christmas movies on demand and playing with that hilarious electric shock gag gift you gave your uncle). To keep the Christmas spirit alive, some of the world’s largest and best markets have set up virtual tours and portals so you can keep shopping online. So you can continue to take part in your usual tradition, even if it looks a little different this year. Below we’ve compiled a list of eight virtual Christmas markets from around the world that you can visit from the comfort of your home. (Chocolate and mulled wine in hand optional but recommended).
There are usually many wonderful Christmas markets all over Germany at this time of year, especially in the federal capital Berlin. Unfortunately, this will not be the case this year, but luckily you can still enjoy the Charlottenburg Palace Market with a virtual 360-degree tour. So light a fire and cook sausages, because you can enjoy all the usual delicacies of the market from the sofa. Even better, if you have a VR headset, there is also a version of the tour formatted for VR so you can fully immerse yourself in the festive experience.
The Little Ice Dream is one of the largest and most popular Christmas markets in Vienna. Although the event cannot take place, the organizers have recorded footage from last year’s market and put together an exciting tour where you can see the market from all angles. You can watch people dance on the ice rink, get access to market stalls, and stroll through the glittering arches. Best of all, there are people in the footage that you really feel like you’re connected to as part of the action.
Due to this year’s unique circumstances, the ChristKindl Christmas Market is the first virtual Christmas market of its kind in the USA. This year’s market bears the “Home for the Holidays” brand and is structured in such a way that it is modeled on a traditional German market. Using the online portal, you can bring your Christmas spirit to life in the online marketplace and take part in family-friendly events and fun interactive activities for children. Through the whole of December until the turn of the year, you can also collect some special memories during this festive season, even if things are a little different than usual.
Every winter, Manchester’s Albert Square is lit up with festive Christmas lights surrounding its already beautiful architecture, including the Town Hall. This lovely, warm atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for the numerous stalls selling Christmas gifts, decorations, chocolates, cheeses and other delicious home-style food. That’s not the case this year, of course, but thanks to Google Street View, you can take a virtual stroll around the market and get your taste buds tingling as you think about all the delicious festivities you’ll enjoy this December.
Since Christmas won’t be the same this year, the nice team at Encompassing Destinations decided to do something very special. They work with a number of Italian suppliers to create a fully virtual and informative Christmas market experience. In addition to their Christmas market tour of three countries, their dedicated website also has lots of information about their Italian sellers, their products and where to buy them for yourself. Because nothing says Christmas like a cheese board full of delicious Italian cheeses (and of course complemented with Italian meat and fresh bread!).
The Ontario Craftadian Holiday Market has been canceled due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is this quaint craft fair is going online to bring you an exciting festive shopping experience. From jewelry makers to artists to handcrafted stationery, this craft fair has something for every craft enthusiast. In addition, on the virtual platform you can not only find out about the manufacturers and craftsmen, but also watch DIY demos and instruction videos on how to get the most out of their products. You can of course then order these products through the website either for yourself or for a loved one as a gift. 7. Santa Claus Village, Finland OK, so not necessarily a market tour, but no Christmas would be complete without a trip to the big one! That’s why you and your little ones can enjoy live streaming and Santa Television, all of which were filmed in Santa Claus Village in Lapland. You can watch video messages from Saint Nick for yourself and watch the elves go to work getting everything ready for Christmas Day. Because hey, the pandemic may have slowed us down and some events may be canceled, but Santa and his reindeer will always find a way to be there on Christmas Day. If you’re traveling home for Christmas to be with your family, My Baggage is for you. Request your offer for luggage shipping today!

Although some of these flights are over eight hours long and operated by 777 and 787 aircraft, they do not have special lounge privileges. That has finally changed. American Airlines is now offering first-class passengers traveling non-stop between the following city pairs access to the Flagship Lounge or the Admirals Club:
The only other nonstop domestic routes eligible for lounge access are nonstop premium transcontinental flights between the following city pairs:
Note that AAdvantage Elite members do not get lounge access on any of these domestic routes, it is based solely on the class of service in which you are traveling. While all eligible customers have immediate access to the Admirals Clubs, American’s flagship lounges are currently closed. American’s Miami Flagship Lounge will reopen in September 2021, and the remaining flagship lounges are expected to open gradually during the fall of 2021. American has flagship lounges in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York. Bottom lineAmerican Airlines first class passengers traveling to and from Hawaii on longer 777s and 787s flights can now enjoy lounge access. This includes the option of using the Admirals Club or the Flagship Lounge, with the latter remaining closed for a little longer. This is a very nice upgrade to the top notch Hawaii travel experience. What do you think of the change in American’s lounge access policy? (Hat tip to Kyle)
Via https://globalconnekt.com/american-airlines-adds-lounge-access-for-hawaii-flights/ Whenever I order a pizza I say a little prayer that it won’t be a disappointment. Sure, this flat circle of dough, topped with tomato sauce, melted cheese and whatever the imagination allows, shouldn’t be a gastronomic dish, but it should have some pizzazz and in my experience they are often mediocre at best In my opinion, a pizza should be crispy enough to have a filling bite, but soft on the inside with spicy toppings for a pleasant chew. On my way to Firebrand Pizza on a long, heady, sunny evening, I mumbled a little invocation and went inside. Ambience![]() On the corner lot at the end of Rosebery Avenue, the building looked fine with its baroque elements. It was still light and sunny that evening and perhaps unsurprisingly the outdoor tables were already snapped up. With overhead heating, cushioned seating, and canopies, the outside area looked like an inviting place to eat. So we took our place inside. This is a spacious area with comfortable upholstered chairs in a pleasant environment. Here, too, the focus is on the hybrid wood / gas stove and it was fun to watch the cook at work. Eat DrinkWhile we waited for the tomato bruschetta marinated in garlic and oregano, mixed olives, and arancini (rice balls filled with mozzarella cheese), a plate of pastry sticks with a balsamic vinegar dip arrived. All well done. Then came the pizzas. My partner went for anchovies, olives, capers, tomato sauce, and mozzarella pizza. I discovered a buffalo mozzarella pizza where the cheese was placed in lumps on top of the pizza after it was cooked. We watched them be made. We saw that – note that my pizza was only topped with tomato sauce: Both turned out slightly crispy – although my partner would prefer it a little crispier. The dough tasted great and we took home what we couldn’t finish. I really wanted to find out the secret of their dough. Co-owner Guy Holmes stated:
Although best known for its pizzas, the Firebrand menu features pasta, steaks, sea bass, and chicken dishes. There are a handful of desserts and of course we went for a pretty decent tiramisu. There is a small wine list, some cocktails (we chose gin and tonic) and a selection of interesting beers. Verdict:These pizzas did have some pizzazz in them. These were as close as possible to an authentic pizza that was eaten in Rome. More information: https://ift.tt/35uxnTr

Today, small business credit cards are more competitive than ever. Not only can they help you earn valuable rewards for your business, but in some cases, business credit cards also offer valuable perks that can save you big bucks and give you peace of mind with your purchases. Chase Ink Business Preferred Card Basics for August 2021The Ink Business Preferred® credit card was introduced in 2016 and, in my opinion, is the best all-round, most versatile business credit card on the market. The card offers an incredible sign up bonus, a reasonable annual fee, excellent bonus categories and valuable perks. So let’s look at the details of the card. Chase Ink Preferred welcome bonus of 100,000 pointsThe Ink Preferred Card offers an incredible Welcome bonus of 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $ 15,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening an account. To me, that’s as generous as welcome bonuses on credit cards. I estimate Ultimate Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so this for me 100,000 points is worth a whopping $ 1,700. Chase 5/24 ruleChase has what is known as the 5/24 rule. As a rule, this means that you will not be approved for the card if you have opened five or more new card accounts in the last 24 months. So when you apply for this card make sure you are under this limit. How to check your 5/24 status and here are the general rules for applying for Chase business cards. Chase Ink Preferred $ 95 annual feeThis Ink Business Preferred has a $ 95 annual fee, which is one of the cheapest annual fees you can find on a premium business card. You can add employees to your card at no additional cost, which means you can also collect points for their expenses more quickly. Collect points with your preferred inkOne of the things that make the Ink Preferred Card so great is that it offers an incredible point-earning structure as you can collect up to triple points on many purchases. 3x point categoriesThe Ink Business Preferred offers 3x Ultimate Rewards points in the following categories:
These are some extremely useful and widely used bonus categories for most businesses. The “Travel” category includes everything from flights to hotels and rental cars to parking spaces and carpooling. Many businesses have internet and phone service costs, so you can earn triple points in these categories as well. If you’re a company that spends a lot on social media or search engine advertising (e.g. Facebook or Google) that could pay off very well too. An exact breakdown of what is in each category can be found here. In my opinion, there is no more rounded business card when it comes to the rewards you receive, and this card “only” has an annual fee of $ 95.
$ 150,000 annual limitEach year on the anniversary of the account, you can earn 3x points for the first $ 150,000 spent collectively in the categories above. This means that they don’t use a calendar from January 1st to December 31st, but on a rolling 12 month period from the time you opened your account. No foreign transaction feesThe Ink Business Preferred has no international transaction fees and is therefore an ideal card for purchases abroad.
Redeeming dots with your preferred inkThe Ink Preferred Card earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and there are two ways to efficiently redeem them for travel rewards:
Ultimate Rewards airline and hotel partners include:
In general, my favorite way to use Ultimate Rewards points is to transfer them to airline and hotel partners, where you will receive oversized value for ambitious redemptions. For example, you can redeem first and business class tickets that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars if paid in cash, or for luxury hotels that would cost more than $ 1,000 a night.
Advantages of the Ink Business Preferred CardAs you can see above, the Ink Preferred Card offers an incredible sign-up bonus and huge categories for earning 3x points. But the benefits of this card go far beyond that. Let’s look at some of the other benefits Ink Business Preferred has, from car rental to a fantastic cell phone protection plan (in all cases, be sure to check your cardholder agreement for full details). Ink Preferred Cell Phone ProtectionWith Ink Business Preferred, you and your employees listed on your monthly cell phone bill will receive up to $ 600 per incident of cell phone protection against insured theft or damage when paid with Chase Ink Business Preferred. You can make a maximum of three claims within 12 months with a deductible of $ 100 per claim. You can find more information about the Ink Business Preferred Cell Phone Protection Plan here. Ink Preferred Rental Car CoverageThe Ink Business Preferred offers a great Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) benefit for the primary car rental company:
More information about the Ink Business Preferred CDW benefit can be found here.
Ink Preferred extended warranty protectionInk Business Preferred allows you to extend the US manufacturer’s warranty by an additional year, with eligible warranties of three years or less. For more information on Ink Business Preferred Extended Warranty Coverage, click here. Ink Preferred travel cancellation and travel interruption insuranceIf your trip is canceled or abandoned due to illness, storms, or other insured situations, you can be reimbursed up to $ 5,000 per trip for your prepaid non-refundable travel expenses, including passenger fares, tours, and hotels.
Is the Ink Business Right For You?While I think the Ink Preferred is the most versatile business credit card out there, it isn’t necessarily for everyone. So I wanted to look at some comparable cards and share my thoughts on which one made the most sense. Quick comparison: Chase Sapphire PreferredSince both are Chase cards and the name includes “Preferred,” I thought it would make sense to compare the Ink Preferred with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (Review). What is different about these cards?
I’m only comparing these two cards because they both have “Preferred” in their names, although I think the Ink Preferred card is a much more rounded card. For now, however, the Sapphire Preferred bonus is pretty remarkable and a reason to get hold of the card as well. Additions: Ink Business Cash & Ink Business UnlimitedWhile the Ink Business Preferred is Chase’s premium business credit card, there is also the Ink Business Unlimited® credit card (test report) and the Ink Business Cash® credit card (test report). These two cards are excellent additions, and it can make sense to have all three (I have all three, for example). The other two cards offer sign-up bonuses of up to 75,000 points, have no annual fee and offer great bonus categories:
Here is a full comparison of the three cards. Instead, earn cashbackWhile I think Ink Business Preferred will be useful for most businesses, there is one exception. If you’re looking for a cash back business card, I wouldn’t recommend the Ink Preferred in the long run. It’s a great travel rewards card. If you’re looking to earn cashback, consider a card like the American Express Blue Business Cash ™ Card (Verification), which has no annual fee (Pricing & Fees) and 2% cashback on the first $ 50,000 of each calendar year (after .) offers that 1%). Chase Ink Business Preferred SummaryThe Ink Business Preferred Card is, in my opinion, the most versatile business credit card on the market. The card offers a massive sign up bonus, incredible 3x point categories for common business spending categories, and amazing protection that spans from car rental damage to cell phone protection to purchase protection. While I would say this card is not worth it for someone who is strictly looking for cashback, otherwise, in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with the Ink Business Preferred. Apply now for the Chase Ink Business Preferred with 100,000 bonus points! The following links lead you to the tariffs and fees for the American Express cards mentioned. These include: American Express® Blue Business Cash Card (prices & fees). Via https://globalconnekt.com/chase-ink-business-preferred-card-review-100000-points-i-one-mile-at-a-time/ It’s not uncommon for hotels to change their branding, although this is strange. Mauritius Hotel goes from St. Regis to JW MarriottAs of August 1, 2021, the St. Regis Mauritius was renamed JW Marriott Mauritius. This is how the hotel describes what will change:
The 172-room resort first opened in 2012 and was the first St. Regis hotel in all of Africa at the time. For context, Marriott considers both St. Regis and JW Marriott to be in its “classic luxury” category, although St. Regis is definitely a premium brand. In general, St. Regis hotels are known for being slightly smaller, more luxurious and offering more personalized service, while JW Marriott hotels are often larger and often even convention hotels. To compare it to other brands, I’d say St. Regis vs. JW Marriott is like Park Hyatt vs. Grand Hyatt. Why this rebranding is unusualIn general, there are several reasons why hotels may choose to rebrand, especially with regards to the major global hotel groups:
So what’s wrong with the St. Regis Mauritius? I’ve been there before and found the hotel to be pretty good in absolute terms, but one of the less impressive hotels in St. Regis. With that in mind, I have a couple of thoughts:
This is definitely one of the more unusual hotel remodels we’ve seen. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first St. Regis to be rebranded as a different Marriott brand, which in itself is quite remarkable. Bottom lineOn August 1, 2021, the St. Regis Mauritius was renamed JW Marriott Mauritius. It’s everyone’s guess what exactly is going on here. There’s no denying that this is a brand downgrade, which leads me to believe that the hotel was somehow no longer up to St. Regis “standards” and didn’t want to invest the money to keep it up. What do you think of this rebranding of St. Regis? (Hat tip to ECR)
