The World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) is one of my favorite hotel credit cards as there are rewards for just owning the card and a significant incentive to spend money on the card as well. This is the hotel credit card I spend the most on each year, so in this post I wanted to explain why. This could be especially useful for many as the card is currently offering new cardholders double elite nights for hotel stays, which fits well with Hyatt having already cut elite requirements in half for 2021. World of Hyatt Credit Card BenefitsOne of the reasons I think the World of Hyatt credit card is so well thought out is because Chase and Hyatt created a card that is not only worth keeping, but also worth cashing in on to spend. In my experience, it’s often one or the other – some cards are worth keeping but not dealt for the benefits, while other cards are worth dealing but not otherwise offering many benefits. Benefits of owning the Hyatt CardThe World of Hyatt Card offers several great perks for just holding the card, including: Discounts for spending money on the Hyatt CardAside from the perks of owning the card (which I think more than justify the annual fee) World of Hyatt Credit Card offers the following incentives to spend:
The $ 15,000 sweet spot in the first yearWhile different people rate money on this card differently, it pays to be explicit about the sweet spot that exists for spending at least $ 15,000 a year, especially in the first year. Hyatt Card welcome bonus of up to 60,000 pointsThe World of Hyatt credit card currently offers a welcome bonus of up to 60,000 World of Hyatt points:
To receive the full welcome bonus, you must spend $ 15,000 within the first six months. This is a huge spending need, although it should be manageable for many on a monthly basis. In addition to double elite nights, if you sign up now, there’s another really nice incentive to spend $ 15,000. Category 1-4 voucher for a free nightWhen you get the World of Hyatt credit card, you’ll likely want to spend $ 15,000 to get the full bonus if you can (the main motivator to get the card now should be double elite nights). Additionally, when you spend $ 15,000, you get a ton of value as you also get a Category 1-4 Anniversary Certificate for a free night. Typically a category 4 hotel costs 15,000 points per night. So if you spend $ 15,000, you get a night in one of these hotels. Note that the value of this certificate may increase in value from March 2022 when Hyatt introduces award pricing during peak and off-peak periods. With these changes, a Category 4 accommodation will cost:
Whether you actually want to rate the free night voucher with up to 18,000 points is entirely up to you. Given the lack of flexibility (you need to redeem exactly in Category 4 to maximize value, it’s only valid for one year, etc.) Six additional elite nightsFor spending $ 15,000 on the World of Hyatt credit card in one year, you’ll earn six qualifying elite nights for status, in addition to the five earned annually for just owning the card. That’s a total of 11 elite nights per year. I love having Hyatt Globalist status and that usually requires 60 elite nights. However, this will only require 30 elite nights in 2021 as the requirements have been cut in half for the year. Plus, if you sign up for the card now, you can also earn Elite Double Nights on your stay. When you add up all of these promotions, the moral of the story is that globalist status is really easy to earn right now. Additionally, keep in mind that earning additional Elite Nights can help you reach the next Milestone Award threshold which could earn you valuable perks like Globalist Suite Upgrade Awards. Spend $ 15,000 in subsequent yearsFor what it’s worth, I picked up this card in 2018 and have spent $ 15,000 on the card every year since then. In recent years, the World of Hyatt Card has paid off not only for the Category 1-4 Free Night Certificate, but also for the extra Elite Nights that helped me earn more Milestone Awards. Much of the expense I put on the card is at Hyatt hotels, where I earn 4x points, so that expense doesn’t really come at an opportunity cost. As long as the benefits of the card remain unchanged, I’ll be putting $ 15,000 on this card for as long as possible. Bottom lineOverall, I think hotel credit cards are incredibly underrated as they can be worth keeping just for the perks they offer, if not otherwise. There aren’t many hotel credit cards that are really worth spending your money on, though the World of Hyatt credit card is an exception. In addition to the huge welcome bonus (including double elite nights on stays) and the ongoing perks the card offers, it can also be worth spending money on the card both to get a free night’s certificate and to make your way to the To fight for globalist status. That’s exactly what I’m doing – by spending $ 15,000 a year on the card, I earn an additional certificate for free category 1-4 nights, plus a total of 11 elite nights. If you have a World of Hyatt credit card, how much do you typically spend on the card each year?
