Qatar Airways today unveiled the chic new aircraft that its subsidiary will take over next year. If only there was an easy way to redeem miles for a flight here. ? Qatar Airways has a private jet subsidiaryPerhaps context is valuable first. While American Airlines has a subsidiary that flies regional jets, Qatar Airways has a subsidiary that flies private jets (of course). In particular, Qatar Executive is the private jet charter division of Qatar Airways. This enables the airline to offer worldwide charter services with its own business jet fleet. Qatar Executive’s fleet currently consists of 19 aircraft, including Bombardier and Gulfstream jets. The division will continue to grow over time as Qatar Executive has ordered 28 more aircraft, most of which are expected to be delivered over the next few years. Qatar Executive has some premieres – it was the world’s first commercial operator of the Gulfstream G500, it is the largest commercial operator of the Gulfstream G650ER, and soon Qatar Executive will be the launch customer for the Gulfstream G700. Qatar Executive has seen tremendous growth during the pandemic – average monthly reserved block hours increased 76% year over year, with booking requests increasing more than 100%. Note that the Qatar Executive fleet is separate from the Qatar Amiri fleet, which includes everything from the Boeing 747-8 to the A340-300. This is usually used by the royal family and other government officials. Qatar Executive has ordered 10 Gulfsteam G700sQatar Executive has ordered 10 Gulfstream G700s, which are expected to ship from 2022. Today, the G700 landed in Qatar for the first time as part of a demonstration flight by Gulfstream to honor Qatar Executive as a first customer. What makes the Gulfstream G700 special?
As for the cabin itself, the Gulfstream G700 can be configured in different ways and can have up to five different living areas with seating for up to 19 passengers and sleeping options for up to 13 passengers. There are a variety of configuration options depending on what you want. There is a configuration with four living areas that can accommodate 19 passengers and up to nine passengers. The main advantage of this configuration is that it has a crew room. Then there is a floor plan with five living areas that can accommodate up to 18 passengers and sleep up to nine passengers, and that configuration has a full-size bed. However, it does not seem to offer any occupation break. To those who know more about private jets than I do, an idea what’s going on there – the pilots just stay in the cockpit for the entire flight and sit upright when they “rest”, there’s simply no rest, right …? Then there is a configuration that can accommodate up to 13 passengers and up to eight passengers, which ultimately seems to be the most convenient. The best I can say, it looks like this configuration has a full bathroom with a shower while the other configurations don’t have a shower (someone will correct me if I’m wrong). I’m curious which layout Qatar Executive will choose. This is how the CEO of the Qatar Airways Group, Akbar Al Baker, describes this aircraft:
Bottom lineThe Qatar Executive fleet will soon be taken to the next level thanks to the Gulfstream G700. The aircraft is incredibly fast and long-range, and can perform ultra-long-haul flights faster than many modern aircraft. While I don’t often blog about private jets, I enjoy keeping up with Qatar Airways activities and the Qatar Executive fleet is part of that. What do you think of Qatar Executive’s Gulfstream G700s?
